Winter Field Day 2024 at the W9RES/LARSC, Inc Clubhouse in Manitowoc County.
WFD is an annual communications exercise held on the last full weekend of January. This year, LARSC, Inc operated from our clubhouse in Manitowoc, WI. In addition to the stations available to members, including VHF/UHF Field Boxes, and our iCom IC-7300 connected to our rooftop EFHW 80-10m antenna, we also had additional stations supplied by Chris AB9RP (Flex Radio) and John W9AH (IC-7300, FT-891, FTM-100, FTM-400 and two EFHW antennas rigged on the day of the event). Although we won't win any awards for contacts, everyone had a great time and enjoyed the opportunity to operate together in the clubhouse.
Winter Field Day is sponsored by the Winter Field Day Association. The Association passionately believes that Ham radio operators should practice portable emergency communications in winter environments as the potential for freezing temperatures, snow, ice, and other hazards present unique operational concerns. WFD is formatted to help increase your level of preparedness for disasters and improve your operational skills in subpar conditions.
